Bio
Coach Russo comes to Gadsden State after retiring from a long successful career at Wallace Community College in Dothan. During his nine seasons as the head coach at Wallace, the softball program had great success under his leadership. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons Wallace’s combined record was 116-15 resulting in two Southern Division Championships, a District I Championship and an appearance in the 2019 NJCAA Division I World Series where they finished fourth in the nation for the final Division I poll.
In 2019, Wallace had the highest win total in the nation with 62 wins which was also Wallace’s single season school record. Russo has coached several All-American and All-American Academic players. Many of his teams were recognized as all-academic teams during his time in Dothan.
In 2018, Russo was voted Southern Division Coach of the Year and Region 22 Coach of the Year. In 2019, he was voted as Southern Division Co-Coach of the Year.
At Wallace, Russo was involved with many facility updates providing his team with one of the best game day atmospheres in the region.
Russo is a native of New Orleans. He and his wife, Peggy, have three children, David, Robin, and Luke.
